A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Benin, where a woman allegedly threw her five-year-old child into a river after reportedly acting on advice from a self-proclaimed spiritual seer.
According to reports, the woman said her ordeal began after the birth of the child, whom she claimed had never been able to walk. She also disclosed that she had been unable to conceive another child since the child’s birth, a situation that pushed her to seek spiritual guidance.

The woman reportedly visited a seer in search of answers and was allegedly told that the child was not human but a python in disguise. According to her account, the seer warned that keeping the child alive would either prevent her from having more children or lead to the birth of more children with similar conditions.
Believing the warning, the woman allegedly took the five-year-old to a river and threw the child into the water.
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the dangers of harmful spiritual beliefs and misinformation, particularly when vulnerable families are seeking explanations for medical or developmental conditions.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the tragic incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and determine the roles played by those involved.
