The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Saturday visited Oyo State in response to the deadly attack and abduction incident that rocked communities in Oriire in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.

During the visit, the police chief expressed deep concern over the tragic development and extended condolences to families of victims who lost their lives in the attack.

The IGP was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, due to the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to border communities in Kwara State. Also on the visit was the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, as part of efforts to strengthen school security and coordinate emergency response measures.

At the Oyo State Police Command, the Inspector-General met with the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, alongside other security stakeholders, where he received operational briefings on ongoing rescue missions and security deployments across the affected areas.

The police boss assured residents, parents and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, working in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering and tactical deployments aimed at securing the safe return of all abducted victims.

He also vowed that those responsible for the attack would be apprehended and brought to justice.

Describing the incident as cruel and unacceptable, the IGP stressed that no effort would be spared in restoring peace and normalcy to the affected communities.

As part of immediate measures, the Inspector-General directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing security operations within the affected communities and adjoining forests.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding schools, communities and citizens across the country.

The statement was issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on May 16, 2026.
