The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state in commemoration of this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Day.

The declaration was contained in a circular issued by Professor Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the Oyo State Government.
According to the state government, the gesture underscores the administration’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers, who play a central role in the state’s education system and human capital development.
The work-free day is also intended to enable teachers to participate fully in activities organised to mark the occasion, reflect on developments and progress within the education sector, and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
The government congratulated teachers across Oyo State on the special occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning in the state.
The declaration means teachers in the state will be away from their regular duties on Monday, October 5, to participate in activities marking the NUT Day celebration.

The state government further recognised the contributions of teachers to the development of education and the wider society, while reiterating its dedication to initiatives that support their professional growth and welfare.
