The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for unity, national renewal and renewed commitment to the country’s development.

Adekanmbi, in an Independence Day message issued on Thursday, October 1, 2026, commended Nigerians for their resilience, determination and unwavering belief in the unity of the country despite the numerous challenges confronting the nation.
He noted that Nigeria had recorded significant achievements in the 66 years since independence, stressing the need to protect and preserve the country’s accomplishments despite prevailing economic and social difficulties.
The APM governorship candidate expressed appreciation to Nigerians for remaining committed to the nation’s unity, notwithstanding their diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.
He said the country’s diversity should not be allowed to undermine the collective determination of its citizens to build a prosperous nation founded on the ideals and aspirations of its founding fathers.

Adekanmbi also acknowledged the contributions of Nigerians across different segments of society, including youths, elders, men and women, to the continued survival and development of the country.
According to him, the collective commitment of citizens remains essential to restoring Nigeria’s position as the giant of Africa, adding that the spirit of unity and cooperation must be sustained to achieve the nation’s full potential.
While expressing concern over the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians in recent years, which he attributed partly to certain policy decisions of the Federal Government, Adekanmbi commended citizens for maintaining hope in the possibility of a better Nigeria.
He particularly identified the rising costs of food, transportation and other essential commodities as some of the major challenges affecting the living conditions of Nigerians.
“The hardship is evident in the rising cost of food, transportation, and other basic necessities. I empathize deeply with Nigerians and affirm that there is hope for a new and better Nigeria,” he said.
Despite the prevailing economic challenges, Adekanmbi urged Nigerians not to lose hope but to remain committed to building a nation that would be a source of pride to both present and future generations.
He called on citizens to support efforts aimed at resetting the country, while encouraging them to participate actively and peacefully in the democratic process and make informed decisions based on vision, competence and values, as outlined by the APM.
The APM governorship candidate also appealed to the people of Oyo State to sustain their support for the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, noting that the governor’s projects and programmes had contributed to the state’s development and strengthened its identity as the Pacesetter State.
Adekanmbi further urged the people to maintain their commitment to the continuity of development in Oyo State as the country prepares for another round of elections in 2027.
He said the programmes articulated by the APM provided a basis for the party’s appeal to voters, urging residents of the state to support and vote for all its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
“As the nation prepares for another round of elections next year, and in line with the articulated programmes of the APM, I urge the people to support and vote for all candidates of our great party to ensure the sustainability of the development Oyo State has witnessed in the last seven years,” he said.
The statement was signed by Yinka Oladoyinbo, Director of Communication and Spokesperson of the Oyo State APM Governorship Campaign Council, on October 1, 2026.
