The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has declared a three-day warning strike, directing public servants across the federal, state and local government levels to participate in the industrial action, which is scheduled to commence at midnight on Friday, October 2, and end on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The declaration was contained in a notice signed by the National Secretary of the council, Comrade O. Olowoyo Gbenga, MILR, FCIA, FEMPO, JP, and addressed to the national presidents and general secretaries, as well as state chairmen and secretaries of the council.
According to the notice, the decision to embark on the warning strike followed the Federal Government’s failure to address the demands earlier presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a letter dated September 21, 2026.
The council recalled that its national leadership had earlier announced its intention to commence a three-day warning strike if President Tinubu failed to respond to its requests, adding that the planned industrial action would take effect immediately if the demands remained unaddressed.
Consequently, the council announced that the warning strike would begin at midnight on Friday, October 2, and run through Sunday, October 4, 2026.
In the notice, the JNPSNC called on all public servants in the employment of the federal, state and local governments to join the industrial action, stressing the need for solidarity among workers across the different tiers of government.

The council emphasised the importance of collective action, declaring that “an injury to one is an injury to all,” particularly in view of the prevailing economic difficulties confronting workers, their dependants and other vulnerable Nigerians.
It expressed concern over the worsening economic situation in the country, noting that public servants, their families and vulnerable citizens were experiencing severe economic and mental hardships, which it described as increasingly unbearable and frustrating.
The council, therefore, urged its members and other public servants to intensify efforts towards mobilising workers and ensuring their participation in the three-day warning strike.
“The time to act and mobilise workers for the three-day warning strike is now,” the notice stated, while calling on its members and relevant stakeholders to ensure the widespread dissemination of the strike declaration.
Expressing confidence in the outcome of the planned industrial action, the council concluded its notice with the assurance that “surely, there is victory for us.”
The notice was issued under the authority of the JNPSNC National Secretary, Comrade O. Olowoyo Gbenga, and endorsed on behalf of the affiliated unions, including the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUPSRAW), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Parastatals and Other Retired Workers (NUPPPROW), National Union of Allied and Agricultural Employees (NUAEE), Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) and Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN).
