The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Ayomide Ojo, in connection with the alleged vandalism and theft of house-wiring cables valued at approximately ₦2.692 million in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The arrest was carried out on Monday, September 21, 2026, by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to the Ogbomoso Base while on anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street in the city.

According to the report, the police operatives accosted Ojo while he was allegedly in possession of a sack bag fully loaded with house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction within Ogbomoso Township.

Following his arrest, the suspect was subjected to preliminary interrogation, during which he reportedly confessed to vandalising the cables alongside an accomplice identified as Warris, who is currently at large.

The suspect further disclosed that the cables were allegedly vandalised from an uncompleted building located opposite Akala House in Ogbomoso.

Acting on the information provided by the suspect, police operatives immediately proceeded to the identified scene of the alleged crime, where they contacted the owner of the vandalised property, identified as Salaudeen Rasaq.

Upon assessing the extent of the loss, Rasaq estimated the value of the cables allegedly vandalised and removed from his building at ₦2,692,000.

The police command said investigation into the incident is ongoing, with concerted efforts being made to apprehend Warris, the fleeing alleged accomplice.

The command also said efforts were underway to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the criminal chain, particularly persons who receive and dispose of vandalised cables.

The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting public and private infrastructure across the state and called on members of the public to provide the police with actionable information about the activities of cable vandals, thieves and those who receive stolen or vandalised cables.

The command’s statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on September 24, 2026.

The suspect remains an accused person, and the allegations against him have yet to be established by a court.
