The Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has affirmed former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as the leader of the party in the South-West, while calling on leaders across the region to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku made the declaration while addressing a cross-section of ADC leaders and members from the South-West at a meeting led by the party’s Zonal Chairman, Hon. Akin Omole.

The former Vice President said the leadership of the ADC in the South-West had never been in dispute, explaining that Aregbesola had earned his position through his political experience, having occupied important political offices and demonstrated what Atiku described as vibrancy in political mobilisation and organisation.
Atiku also expressed appreciation to the South-West leadership for convening the meeting, assuring the gathering that everything humanly possible would be done to reconcile differences among party leaders in the zone for the overall interest of the ADC.
He called on leaders across the six South-West states to put their differences aside, close ranks and work assiduously together towards achieving success for the party in the 2027 general elections.
The meeting came amid concerns over disagreements among ADC leaders across the South-West, with the party’s Zonal Chairman, Hon. Akin Omole, informing Atiku of what he described as persistent disquiet in the six states.
According to Omole, the disagreements had affected the progress of the party in the region, prompting the need for the meeting to address the challenges and seek solutions ahead of the general election.
Omole appealed to Atiku and other leaders present to assist in resolving the problems identified through the findings of a committee that had been constituted to examine the situation within the party across the region.
He subsequently presented the committee’s report to Atiku Abubakar for consideration.
The meeting thereafter emphasised the need for ADC leaders in the South-West to reconcile their differences, adjust to the prevailing situation within the party and work collectively towards strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The call for reconciliation and unity was central to the gathering, with participants stressing the importance of cooperation among leaders across the zone as part of the party’s efforts to achieve, as they put it, a resounding victory in the forthcoming general election.
