The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has displayed the name and Form EC9 of Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, a development expected to further settle the lingering controversy over the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adegoke’s Form EC9 was posted by the electoral commission in the early hours of Saturday, August 29, in line with INEC’s timetable for the 2027 general elections.
The name of the ADC candidate was displayed alongside those of governorship candidates submitted by other political parties in states where governorship elections will be conducted in 2027.
INEC had fixed Saturday, August 29, for the publication of the names of governorship candidates submitted by political parties.
The development places Adegoke officially on the commission’s published list as the ADC candidate for the Oyo State governorship election and is expected to bring greater clarity to the dispute that had trailed the party’s governorship ticket, with competing claims previously emerging over who was the authentic candidate.
Reacting to the publication, Adegoke’s media team said it had never entertained any doubt about the status of its principal as the authentic ADC governorship candidate in Oyo State.
According to the team, Adegoke emerged victorious at the party’s governorship primary, which it said was duly supervised by INEC.
The team maintained that the publication of Adegoke’s name and Form EC9 should put an end to the claim by another aspirant to the ADC governorship ticket.
It therefore urged other aspirants and their supporters to desist from further misrepresentation and respect both the decision of the party and the position of the electoral commission.
Reaffirming its confidence in Adegoke, the campaign organisation described him as a tested leader with the capacity, vision and experience to provide credible leadership and good governance, while pursuing what it described as the rebuilding of Oyo State.
The team also called on members and supporters of the ADC, as well as residents of the state, to remain calm, united and focused as mobilisation and preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
The Oyo State governorship election is among those scheduled for Oyo and 27 other states. In comparison, elections to the State Houses of Assembly are expected to take place across all 36 states of the federation.
