The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, bringing an end to weeks of anticipation among candidates, parents and schools across Nigeria.
The examination body announced the release on Wednesday through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, informing candidates that their results are now available online.
In the announcement, WAEC stated: “UPDATE: 2026 WASSCE (SC) results have been released. Generate your PIN at WAEC and check your results now on WAEC Direct.”
Statistics released by the Council show that a total of 1,950,726 candidates sat for the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates.
Out of this figure, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, the minimum requirement for admission into most tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
WAEC also disclosed that the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of the total number of candidates, have been withheld over allegations of examination malpractice. The Council explained that the affected cases are currently under investigation and would be treated in accordance with its established regulations before final decisions are taken.
Candidates have been advised to check their results online through the WAEC Direct portal after obtaining a valid Result Checker PIN.
To access their results, candidates are required to generate or purchase a Result Checker PIN, enter their examination number, select the 2026 examination year and examination type, provide the PIN and serial number, and submit the required details.
WAEC urged candidates to ensure that all information entered is correct before submission. It also appealed for patience from users who may experience delays while accessing the portal due to the expected high volume of traffic following the release of the results.
The release of the 2026 WASSCE results marks a significant milestone for thousands of candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria and other West African countries, as successful candidates can now proceed with admission processing, including the uploading of their O’Level results to JAMB CAPS where applicable.
