Anxiety has gripped candidates, parents and schools across the country following the decision of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to postpone the release of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
The results, which had been scheduled for release on Monday, August 3, 2026, were not announced as expected after the examination body rescheduled the press briefing earlier fixed for the official release.
The postponement was announced in a statement issued on Monday by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, on behalf of the Head of the National Office.
According to the statement, the press briefing to formally announce the release of the 2026 WASSCE results for school candidates has been postponed, with a new date and time to be communicated later.
The statement read: “Please be informed that the press briefing to announce the release of the results for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2026, has been rescheduled.
“The new date and time will be communicated to you shortly.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this change may cause.”
Although WAEC did not give reasons for the postponement, the development has left millions of candidates eagerly awaiting their results uncertain about when they will be able to access them.
The Council assured stakeholders that a fresh date for the press briefing and the release of the results would be announced soon.
The postponement comes after reports in July 2026 indicated that WAEC had reached the final stage of processing the 2026 WASSCE results and was expected to release them on Monday, August 3, subject to the successful completion of all necessary procedures.
Candidates, parents and school authorities are now awaiting further communication from the examination body on the new date for the official release of the 2026 WASSCE results.
