Heavy Security Deployed to Ojoo Hub as Violent Yoruba-Hausa Youth Clash Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured in Ibadan

A massive deployment of joint security operatives, comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps), and the Nigerian Army, has successfully restored order to the volatile Ojoo interchange area of Ibadan following a violent clash between Yoruba and Hausa youths that resulted in two confirmed fatalities.

The conflict, which erupted during the peak transit hours of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, brought economic activities at the strategic interstate transport hub to a grinding halt, leaving several persons severely injured, two dead, and numerous commercial properties vandalized

According to preliminary accounts from local transport workers and market leaders, the crisis began as a localized commercial dispute at the commercial motor park before spiraling into an ethnic confrontation.

Eyewitnesses stated that an argument broke out between a Yoruba commercial driver and a northern transport loader over loading rights and park fees. The disagreement quickly turned physical, prompting sympathizers from both sides to mobilize reinforcement weapons, including cutlasses, clubs, and iron rods.

As the fight spilled onto the main Ojoo-Ogbomoso expressway, hoodlums hijacked the chaos, launching attacks on the nearby onion market and roadside retail shops predominantly operated by Hausa traders, while retaliatory groups targeted Yoruba-owned commercial buses.

Tragically, the escalation claimed the lives of two individuals, who were caught in the crossfire of the rampaging youth factions before security forces could fully establish a perimeter. Their identities are currently being withheld pending formal notification of their families.

Emergency medical teams and local security personnel evacuated the deceased to a metropolitan morgue, while at least nine other persons who sustained deep machete cuts and severe blunt-force trauma were rushed to nearby healthcare facilities and the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for urgent treatment.

As panic gripped commuters and caused severe gridlock along the main northern exit corridor of the city, the Oyo State Police Command triggered an emergency tactical deployment.

Teams from the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), the Operation Burst joint task force, and Amotekun operatives swarmed the scene, firing warning shots into the air and using tear gas to disperse the rioting crowds. Security forces successfully erected a containment perimeter around the main Ojoo market axis, preventing the violence from spreading into neighboring residential communities like Akinyele or Moniya.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday evening, the Police Command stated that the situation has been brought under absolute control. Several suspects caught destroying property or wielding dangerous weapons on the scene were arrested and moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleyele for profiling, interrogation, and prosecution for arson and murder.

In a swift response to prevent the casualties from triggering wider regional tensions or reprisal actions, the leadership of both communities has initiated emergency peace talks.

The Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, alongside traditional Yoruba community chiefs and leaders of the Park Management System (PMS), issued a joint appeal for calm, urging youths from both extractions to sheathe their swords and allow the law to take its course.

While the Ojoo flyover and surrounding arterial roads have been cleared of debris and reopened to vehicular movement, heavy patrol vehicles remain stationed at strategic junctions to enforce the peace, while undercover intelligence operatives have been embedded within the park to monitor flashpoints through the night.
