A group in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saki West Local Government has dismissed recent publications perceived to be against the senatorial aspiration of Mrs Hannah Olawumi Ogunesan, MFR, describing them as personal opinions that do not reflect the position of APC members in Oyo North Senatorial District.
The position was made known during an enlarged meeting of APC members and stakeholders held in Saki.
In a statement read on behalf of the group by Mr. Sunday Adeniyi, the APC said the publications allegedly aimed at creating electoral setbacks for Ogunesan should not be mistaken for the collective voice of party members in Oyo North Senatorial District.
The statement noted that the growing support for Ogunesan across the Oke-Ogun and Ogbomosho zones is rooted in her years of commitment, accessibility, grassroots engagement and selfless service to the people.
According to the group, her popularity is not built on sponsored headlines or divisive propaganda but on the confidence reposed in her by party faithful, stakeholders, community leaders, women, youths and the wider electorate.
The APC maintained that while the party remains a democratic platform that accommodates differing opinions and lawful political aspirations, no individual, group or publication has the authority to determine who emerges as its candidate.
It stressed that the emergence of candidates rests solely on the party’s recognised structures, established procedures and democratic processes, as well as the decision of duly accredited party delegates.
The statement urged all aspirants and their supporters to embrace issue-based, mission-driven and party-focused campaigns capable of strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than promoting narratives capable of causing division within the party.
It further warned that any action that undermines the party’s rules, lawful processes or integrity should be regarded as a serious breach of party discipline and could attract appropriate sanctions in line with the APC constitution and other applicable laws.
The group specifically alleged that the actions of Mr. Gbenga Adegbola, including protesting against the party and what it described as its preferred candidate, as well as announcing what it termed an unauthorised election result contrary to the official report and final position of the party, amounted to a violation of party discipline, loyalty and democratic order.
Reaffirming its support for Ogunesan, the APC said the party stalwart remains committed to uniting members, expanding the party’s support base, promoting peace within the APC and providing purposeful representation for the people of Oyo North Senatorial District.
The group expressed confidence that, through a transparent democratic process and with the support of party members and the electorate, Mrs. Hannah Olawumi Ogunesan, MFR, is well-positioned to emerge as the APC candidate and subsequently win the Oyo North Senatorial District senatorial election in 2027.
The statement concluded by calling on party members to remain united and committed to truth, service and the collective progress of the APC, insisting that the party’s future should be built on unity rather than propaganda and divisive politics.
