The Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, participated in the 2026 Nigeria Environmental Summit (NEST 2026) held in Abuja, with the theme: “Unlocking Nigeria’s Green Economy: Driving Climate Action and Environmental Governance.”

The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, represented the state at the summit, which brought together policymakers, development partners, environmental experts, private sector stakeholders and government representatives from across the country.

The summit, organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment in collaboration with key public and private sector partners, provided a platform for discussions on innovative approaches to environmental sustainability, climate action, green investments and effective environmental governance.

During the engagements, Oyo State explored several partnership opportunities with private sector organisations and development institutions aimed at supporting the state’s climate resilience and environmental sustainability agenda.

A major highlight of the event was a symbolic climate restoration artwork session designed to raise support for communities adversely affected by climate change, environmental degradation and extreme weather events.

Hon. Aderinto participated in the collaborative artwork by restoring the leaves of a drying tree, symbolising hope for nature’s restoration, environmental recovery and collective action towards a sustainable future.

The Commissioner also engaged with representatives of leading organisations, including Lafarge Group and other private sector participants, on potential areas of collaboration.

The Oyo State Government reaffirmed at the summit that achieving effective climate governance requires stronger private sector-driven partnerships capable of complementing government efforts in addressing climate challenges, promoting green economic growth and delivering sustainable environmental solutions for present and future generations.

Present at the event were: Nasarawa State Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Dr Margaret Elayo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, representative of the World Health Organisation, Dr Mya Ngon, Dr Murtala Adogi Mohammed who delivered the keynote lecture, Gbemiga Owolabi who represented the Lafarge group, and several other stakeholders.
