The Media Office of Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has dismissed as false, malicious and baseless reports circulating on social media linking the lawmaker to the abduction of Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, a sister to Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons.
In a statement, the media office described the publication as irresponsible, defamatory, politically motivated and lacking in credibility.
The statement maintained that Senator Alli, a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a respected legal practitioner and an Ibadan High Chief, has built a reputation over decades through public service, leadership and commitment to peace, noting that his record remains unquestionable.
According to the statement, it was absurd and illogical for anyone to attempt to associate the senator with criminal allegations based solely on unverified claims allegedly made by a suspect under investigation.
The media office stressed that Senator Alli had no connection whatsoever with the incident, the individuals involved or any activity relating to kidnapping and violence.
It further argued that attempts to link campaign materials or stickers bearing the senator’s identity to criminal activities exposed what it described as a desperate agenda by political opponents to tarnish the image of a widely accepted leader whose popularity continues to grow across Oyo State.
The statement also noted that the report in question admitted that no security agency had established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.
It expressed concern that unnamed propagandists were allegedly exploiting unconfirmed claims to mislead members of the public and create unnecessary tension within the polity.
Senator Alli, according to the statement, strongly condemned kidnapping and all forms of criminality, reiterating his commitment to the rule of law and his consistent support for efforts aimed at strengthening security and safeguarding lives and property in Oyo State and the country.
The media office urged members of the public to disregard the publication in its entirety and refrain from spreading false information capable of undermining ongoing security investigations or generating avoidable political tension.
It also called on security agencies to investigate the source of the alleged malicious narrative and ensure that those behind what it described as fake news and political blackmail are brought to justice.
The statement added that Senator Alli remains focused on his legislative responsibilities, his commitment to the people of Oyo State and his vision of a safer, more prosperous and united state.
The statement was signed by the Media Office of Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
