Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has formally emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general elections following the completion of the party’s nomination and screening process.

The unveiling took place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, during a high-profile ceremony in Ibadan, where the National Chairman of the party, Yusuf Dantali, presented Makinde with his Certificate of Return.

The presentation marked the successful conclusion of the party’s internal presidential nomination and vetting exercise, officially positioning the Oyo State governor as the APM standard-bearer for the next presidential election.

The event attracted national party leaders, delegates, political associates and grassroots supporters from different parts of the country, underscoring the significance of the occasion in the party’s preparations for the 2027 polls.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dantali said the party settled for Makinde because of his proven leadership credentials and administrative experience.

According to him, the governor possesses the executive capacity and national vision needed to address the country’s challenges and provide purposeful leadership.

He urged party members across the country to unite behind the presidential candidate and intensify mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level ahead of the election.

“We must unite behind our presidential candidate and mobilise support across every ward in the country,” Dantali charged party faithful, expressing confidence that the APM would present itself as a credible and disciplined alternative to Nigerians under Makinde’s leadership.

With his nomination now officially certified by the party’s national leadership, Makinde is expected to build on his governance record in Oyo State as he seeks to broaden his appeal and forge alliances across the country.

Political observers believe the early conclusion of the APM presidential nomination process could provide the party with a strategic advantage as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
