Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 general elections.
The result of the party’s presidential primary election was announced on Wednesday night by the returning officer, Tunde Ogbeha, at the ADC national collation centre located at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
According to the results announced, Atiku secured a total of 1,846,370 votes to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.
Atiku contested the primary election alongside former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Amaechi polled 504,117 votes, while Hayatu-Deen garnered 177,120 votes in the contest.
The emergence of Atiku as the ADC presidential flagbearer is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections as political parties intensify preparations for the nationwide polls.
