The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has moved to standardize the official naming of the Nigerian leader following a series of recurring errors identified in publications by various organisations and media outlets.
The clarification was contained in a formal statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Mr Yomi Odunuga, and was personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
To ensure administrative uniformity and institutional respect, Senator Akume emphasized that for the record, the only correct and official appellation is:
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The SGF noted that this clarification became an urgent necessity following a specific error observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a prominent national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
Senator Akume urged the public, and particularly media practitioners, to meticulously verify official titles before publication. He described the persistent lapses as “embarrassing and avoidable errors” that could be easily rectified through proper consultation with appropriate official sources.
