FROM PDP TO APM: SHINA PELLER VOWS ‘RESPONSIVE REPRESENTATION’ FOR OYO NORTH

In a move that has fundamentally reshaped the political landscape of Oyo North, the Ayedero of Yorubaland and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The transition was formalized on Thursday at the APM State Secretariat in Ibadan, where Hon. Peller was received by a massive surge of supporters and party executives. The move is widely seen as a calculated effort to safeguard his 2027 Senatorial ambitions from the crippling legal instability currently plaguing his former party.

Explaining the rationale behind this high-stakes realignment, Hon. Peller’s Chief Press Secretary, Kola Popoola, cited the protracted leadership vacuum and the “legal cul-de-sac” facing the PDP. He specifically pointed to the recent judicial nullification of the Ibadan convention—which had produced Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as the party’s National Chairman—as the primary catalyst for his exit.

“Politics is about the people, but it must be built on a foundation of legal and structural stability,” Popoola stated. “Hon. Peller is prioritizing the mandate of the Oyo North people. We cannot afford to subject a hard-earned electoral victory to the whims of post-election litigations caused by internal party malfunctions.”

Furthermore, Peller’s spokesperson added, “By joining the Allied Peoples Movement, Hon. Peller is positioning himself at the vanguard of a third-force movement. His entry into the APM is not merely a change of platform but a commitment to a ‘People-First’ agenda. His 2027 Senatorial bid will now run on a manifesto anchored on youth advancement, leveraging his background as a youth icon to drive legislative reforms for the digital economy; grassroots inclusion and economic empowerment, among others.”

Hon. Shina Peller remains one of Nigeria’s most recognizable political figures, blending legislative experience with a massive philanthropic footprint. His tenure in the 9th Assembly was marked by vocal advocacy for national security and constitutional reform. His transition to the APM signals a new era of “Responsive Representation,” aiming to provide a credible alternative to the traditional political binary in Oyo State.

The atmosphere at the APM Secretariat remained electric throughout the event, with party faithful describing Peller’s arrival as the “missing piece” in the party’s quest to become the dominant political force in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
