The African Democratic Congress has petitioned the Supreme Court for an urgent resolution of the lingering leadership dispute threatening the party’s internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the party’s legal representatives expressed concern over what they described as prolonged judicial delay, warning that the absence of a final ruling is deepening uncertainty within the party and affecting its long-term political plans.
According to the legal team, the unresolved crisis is already undermining the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 elections and weakening its ability to function effectively as a major opposition platform.
The counsel stressed that a timely judgment is essential not only for the party’s internal administration but also for safeguarding democratic participation and ensuring the ADC remains fully positioned for the upcoming polls.
The leadership tussle, which reportedly involves prominent political figures including David Mark and stakeholders such as Nafiu Bala, has emerged as one of the most closely followed legal disputes within Nigeria’s political landscape.
The disagreement has divided the party into rival factions, with each group laying claim to legitimacy.
