President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the removal of Wale Edun as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
The announcement was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. According to the statement, Taiwo Oyedele, the former Minister of State for Finance, has been promoted to take over as the substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
The reshuffle also affected the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Ahmed Dangiwa was sacked from his position, with the President naming Muttaqha Darma as his successor. Darma’s appointment as minister-designate is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
In the interim, Dangiwa has been directed to hand over the affairs of the ministry to the Minister of State for Housing until the conclusion of the Senate confirmation process for Darma.
The SGF stated that all handover processes for the affected ministries must be completed on or before April 23, 2026.
Senator Akume explained that the President’s decision, made in accordance with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), is aimed at strengthening government coordination and improving the delivery of economic priorities under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
While wishing the outgoing ministers well in their future endeavors, the President expressed appreciation for their contributions to the cabinet and noted that efforts to reposition the government for better performance will continue.
