PDP Denies Alliance Talks with ADC, Describes Reports as ‘Baseless’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally disowned reports alleging that it held strategic alliance talks with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), dismissing such claims as misleading and unauthorized.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, categorically stated that no formal or informal meeting took place between the two political parties.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation about a possible “Mega Party” merger among opposition forces aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

According to the PDP, the party leadership neither convened nor authorized any such engagement, stressing that individuals reportedly involved in the alleged meeting acted solely in their personal capacities.

“Any persons reported to have participated in such engagements did so purely in their individual capacities and cannot be deemed to represent the PDP in any form,” the statement noted.

The party leadership therefore urged its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the reports, describing them as baseless and not reflective of the party’s current position or activities.

Rather than pursuing external alliances, the PDP emphasized that its immediate focus remains on internal consolidation ahead of the 2027 polls. The party disclosed that preparations for its primaries are already at an advanced stage.

“Preparations for the conduct of Party primaries have progressed significantly. Further details regarding timelines and guidelines will be communicated in due course,” Jungudo Haruna Mohammed stated.

The development is seen as a deliberate move by the PDP leadership to reinforce party discipline and stability as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify. By distancing itself from the reported ADC talks, the party appears to be positioning itself to either negotiate future alliances from a position of strength or proceed independently.

Political observers, however, note that while individual party members may be engaging in cross-party discussions, the official structure of the PDP is currently focused on screening and presenting candidates capable of offering what it described as credible leadership and direction for the country.

The statement was issued by the National Publicity Secretariat of the PDP.
