In a direct response to the rising cost of living and the recent hike in petroleum product prices, the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has announced a new financial intervention aimed at cushioning the economic hardship faced by the state’s workforce.

The Governor has approved a flat-rate palliative of ₦10,000 per month for all state government workers. Notably, this relief package is inclusive of all local government employees across the state’s 33 LGAs and various LCDAs.

    Launch and Duration

Governor Makinde made the high-profile announcement during the Youth Empowerment Agribusiness Programme (YEAP) Safer Disbursement Ceremony and Stakeholders’ Engagement. The event took place at the prestigious Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub in the Oyo axis of the state.

According to the Governor, the payment of this ₦10,000 flat rate is scheduled to commence in April 2026. While the current approval covers an initial period of three months (April, May, and June), there is a strong window for continuity.

    Potential Extension

Addressing the gathered stakeholders and agribusiness beneficiaries, Governor Makinde expressed optimism regarding the future of the relief scheme. He stated that the palliative measure may be extended beyond the initial three-month timeframe, noting that such a decision would depend on the “prevailing economic conditions” at that time.

    A Strategy for Stability

This move is seen as part of the “Omituntun 2.0” administration’s broader strategy to maintain industrial harmony and support the purchasing power of public servants amidst fluctuating national fuel prices. By announcing this at the Fasola Agribusiness Hub, the Governor also underscored the link between food security, youth empowerment, and the general welfare of the state’s population.

State and Local Government workers are expected to see the adjustment reflect in their payrolls starting from the next month’s salary cycle.
