The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Oyo State has officially cleared the way for internal electoral activities across its local branches. The State President, Comrade Ayobami Olusegun Adeogun, announced the lifting of the ban on electioneering campaigns during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
With this directive, the union officially opens the window for candidates seeking offices in 25 branches across the various administrative zones of the state. The announcement follows a period of restricted political activity within the union, intended to maintain organizational focus before the transition process.
While addressing the SEC-in-Session and general members, Comrade Adeogun issued a strong warning against divisive politics. He specifically cautioned aspirants and their supporters to refrain from character assassination and any negative campaign strategies that could undermine the union’s stability or create factions among the workforce.
The NULGE President underscored the need for a respectful and constructive electoral process, reminding all stakeholders that the primary goal remains the welfare of local government employees. He urged members to uphold the union’s core values of unity and peace, stressing that the image of the organization must be protected throughout the various stages of the local elections.
By fostering an environment of collaboration, Adeogun noted that the union can ensure a seamless transition that strengthens its collective bargaining power. The lifting of the ban is expected to trigger a flurry of activities at the local level as aspirants begin formal consultations and present their manifestos to the members.
