The All Progressives Congress has officially set the machinery in motion for its 2026 National Convention by approving a high-powered list of sub-committee leaders tasked with ensuring a transparent and credible transition. In a strategic distribution of roles, the party has appointed Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and Governor Babagana Umar Zulum to head critical departments, signaling a heavy reliance on seasoned political administrators to manage the upcoming internal elections and logistical operations.
Under the new arrangement, Senator Godswill Akpabio will chair the Ceremonial, Programme and Events Committee alongside Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, while Governor Hope Uzodimma takes charge of the Finance Committee supported by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Finance Minister Olawale Edun. The essential task of Delegates’ Accreditation has been entrusted to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umar Zulum, who will work with Governor Umo Eno and Senator Barau Jibrin to verify the party’s voting bloc.
The electoral integrity of the convention will be managed by a team led by Aminu Bello Masari, who chairs the Election Committee alongside Senator Anyim Pius Anyim. To handle the initial vetting of candidates, the Aspirants’ Screening Committee will be headed by Governor Abiodun Oyebanji and Governor Usman Ododo. Meanwhile, the party’s legal interests and dispute resolutions are placed in the hands of Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi and Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who lead the Legal Advisory Committee, while an Election Appeal Committee will be overseen by Agbu Kefas and Siminalayi Fubara.
Beyond the core electoral roles, the APC has mapped out a comprehensive logistical framework including a Security Committee led by General Christopher Gwabin Musa and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and a Media and Publicity arm steered by Governor Mai Mala Buni. Other notable appointments include Governor Dave Umahi for Accommodation and Transportation, Senator Bassey Otu for Protocol, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the Convention Legacy and Rapporteur Committee. According to National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, these appointments reflect the party’s commitment to internal democracy and the consolidation of its progressive ideals as it prepares for a seamless national gathering.
