Saudi Arabia Announces February 18 as First Day of Ramadan 1447 AH

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has officially declared Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH, following the successful sighting of the new moon across the Kingdom.

The decision came after an extensive moon-searching exercise conducted in line with Islamic tradition. Authorised moon sighting committees from various parts of the country reported that the crescent was sighted, prompting the formal announcement on Tuesday.

With the confirmation, Muslims throughout Saudi Arabia will commence fasting at dawn on Wednesday, ushering in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar — a sacred period dedicated to fasting, prayer, reflection and charitable acts.

Ramadan is widely regarded as a time of heightened spiritual devotion, during which Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset, engage in increased worship, and participate in community gatherings.

Mosques across the Kingdom have concluded preparations to welcome large numbers of worshippers for the special Taraweeh prayers held nightly throughout the month. Authorities have also finalised measures aimed at ensuring smooth services and orderly observance during the holy period.

In addition, government agencies and private sector institutions are set to implement adjusted working hours in line with the Ramadan schedule.
