The Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, has congratulated Muslims across Yorubaland, Nigeria and the global Ummah on the commencement of Ramadan 2026 (1447 AH), calling for renewed unity and devotion among believers.
In a press statement marking the beginning of the holy month, the revered Islamic leader described Ramadan as a sacred season devoted to deep reflection, spiritual rejuvenation, self-discipline and a strengthened commitment to the teachings of Islam.
He encouraged Muslims to take full advantage of the month’s blessings through sincere acts of worship, increased charity, compassion towards the less privileged and fervent prayers for peace and progress in Nigeria.
Emphasising the need for solidarity, the Aare Musulumi noted that the strength of Islam lies in the bond of brotherhood and shared purpose among the faithful. He urged Muslims to avoid division, promote harmony and uphold the principles of tolerance and mutual respect within their communities.
“As we begin this sacred month, let us remember that Ramadan is not only about abstaining from food and drink, but also about purifying our hearts, strengthening our faith, and reinforcing our unity as one Ummah,” he stated.
He further called on Muslim leaders, scholars and youths to use the period to advance peaceful coexistence and contribute meaningfully to national development. Special prayers were also offered for Nigeria’s stability, security and prosperity.
The Aare Musulumi concluded by wishing Muslims a spiritually rewarding Ramadan and prayed that Allah (SWT) grants all believers the strength and grace to complete the fast successfully.
