The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects linked to the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, following an intelligence-led operation.
The arrests were carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. The police said the operation was executed by crack operatives of the command.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation conducted between 10:00pm on January 17 and 4:00am on January 18, 2026. Those arrested were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all in Kano.
The police disclosed that the leader of the syndicate, Umar Auwalu, who is a nephew of the deceased housewife, confessed to masterminding the crime. He further admitted that the group had been involved in other violent crimes in recent times, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects included four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club locally known as “gora,” some cash allegedly stolen from the scene of the crime, and other dangerous weapons. The police said investigation into the matter is ongoing.
The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and appreciated members of the public for their prayers, support and cooperation. The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.
