The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a reported threat by suspected bandits to launch an attack on Ikoyi-Ile community in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olayinka Ayanlade, a handwritten note allegedly issued by the suspected bandits was discovered in front of a residential building in the community. The note, he said, was written in both Yoruba and English.

The development follows a recent deadly incident in the area, where a 12-man suspected bandit gang invaded Oloka community in Oriire Local Government Area at about 11:30 p.m. on January 7, killing five officers of the National Park Service in their office.

Ayanlade disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has directed the State Intelligence Department, working closely with tactical units, to immediately begin intensive debriefing of all individuals connected to the discovery of the threatening note.

He added that security measures across the affected areas have been significantly reinforced, including armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance, and strategic area domination. Police personnel, he said, are on 24-hour high alert with sustained ground presence to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the situation.

The Area Command has also been instructed to ensure constant supervision and maintain continuous patrol coverage throughout the axis.

“The command has launched a thorough and intelligence-driven investigation into the origin, authenticity, and intent of the said note,” Ayanlade stated.

He assured residents that the police would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the threat, stressing that anyone found responsible would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public not to panic, assuring them that robust security arrangements have been fully activated to protect lives and property across the state.

He also called on citizens to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station, security post, or through established emergency channels, noting that timely information remains critical to effective preventive policing.
