A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oyewole Olaosebikan, has formally declined his appointment as a member of the Oyo State Caretaker Committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman and members of the NWC at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, Olaosebikan expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him through his nomination.
He acknowledged the opportunity to serve the party at any level but stated that, after sober reflection and wide consultation, he had decided to decline the appointment.
According to him, the decision was guided by his longstanding political convictions and loyalty to leadership. Olaosebikan noted that, as a committed party man, he has always aligned his political actions and responsibilities with the ideals, vision and leadership structure under which he serves.
He explained that the constitution of the Oyo State Caretaker Committee without the input or participation of the Leader of the PDP in the state, Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, FNSE, placed him in a difficult position of conscience.
Olaosebikan said he holds Governor Makinde in the highest esteem and remains firmly committed to the values, principles and leadership direction he represents, stressing that accepting the appointment under the present circumstances would be inconsistent with those ideals and his personal sense of political propriety.
He added that the decision was taken with utmost respect to the National Working Committee and without prejudice to his continued loyalty to the PDP, affirming his readiness to serve the party whenever such service aligns with established leadership structures and shared values.
The letter concluded with assurances of his highest regards to the party leadership.
