Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to conduct local government elections before the end of his tenure, declaring that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nothing to fear from opposition parties in the state.
The governor made this known on Tuesday while inaugurating members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde noted that the tenure of the current chairmen across the 33 local government councils in the state is expected to expire in May 2027, stressing that his government remains committed to ensuring a smooth, democratic transition through the conduct of credible council elections.
He described the newly inaugurated OYSIEC members as individuals of proven integrity and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with transparency and fairness in order to deepen democratic governance and move the state forward.
According to him, the PDP-led administration is confident and unafraid of political competition, adding that the electoral process under the commission must reflect openness and credibility.
Those inaugurated as members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission include Adebiyi Babatunde as Chairman, Olatunde Theophilus, Chief Kunmi Agboola, and Mr. Sunday Falana.
Other members of the commission are Remi Ayoade, Olarenwaju Emmanuel, Babatunde Ige, and Adebayo Mariam.
