President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a firm warning to state governors over the implementation of local government autonomy, signaling that he may invoke his executive order if full compliance is not achieved.

The President stated that the Federal Government would proceed independently if necessary, stressing that funds would be disbursed directly to local government accounts ahead of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

Tinubu emphasized that failure by state governments to fully implement local government autonomy could force the Federal Government to take decisive action to ensure that local councils receive their funds directly.

His position, he noted, is aimed at enforcing financial independence for local governments and strengthening grassroots governance across the country.
