Adeleke May Pull Out as Osun PDP Shifts Primaries

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has announced a shift in its scheduled governorship primaries, originally fixed for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, following disruptions caused by the leadership crisis at the national level of the party.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, explained that although Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke fulfilled all requirements for participation in the primaries, the party could not proceed due to unresolved internal issues affecting the national leadership.

According to Bisi, Governor Adeleke purchased and submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms between October 13th and 25th, 2025, appeared before the party’s Screening Committee on October 30th, and was cleared without reservations.

However, the chairman noted that the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers—officials essential to conducting congresses, primaries, and transmitting candidates’ names to INEC—created uncertainties that halted the party’s timetable. As a result, the statutory ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24th and 29th failed to hold. These congresses are crucial for electing delegates who would participate in the primaries.

Bisi further disclosed that, based on the information available to him, Governor Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless a resolution recognized by INEC is reached within the required timeline. He emphasized that Adeleke remains the only aspirant who purchased forms and was duly screened in line with party procedures.

The chairman stressed that while the conduct of primaries lies solely with the PDP National Secretariat, it is the responsibility of the state leadership to keep party members and the public informed. He assured that efforts are ongoing at both state and national levels to achieve a lawful and timely resolution of the crisis.

He thanked party members and the people of Osun State for their understanding, reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to transparency and due process.

“God bless the Peoples Democratic Party. God bless Osun State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded.
