President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a second batch of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, adding 32 names to the earlier list of three sent last week.
The new list, read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, includes former Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, among the nominees drawn from across the country.
Akpabio confirmed that the President’s latest communication brings the total number of nominees so far to 35, noting that the Senate will screen them in line with its constitutional mandate.
Last week, Tinubu forwarded the first set of nominations featuring Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke. At the time, Akpabio had indicated that more names were expected.
Since assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu has not appointed ambassadors, a delay that has attracted public concern. The submission of the comprehensive list now sets the stage for Nigeria to fill its vacant diplomatic positions abroad.
