Wike, Fayose Dismiss PDP Convention as ‘Dirty December in November’ After Expulsion

The fallout from the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continued on Tuesday as both men, through their aide, mocked the party’s national convention in Ibadan, describing it as nothing more than an early festive spree.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Wike, reacted in a statement, saying the PDP convention resembled “Dirty December in November,” suggesting that delegates arrived in Ibadan not for serious political business but to revel.

“They went to Ibadan to start their own Dirty December in November. When people decide to start their Dirty December early, one can’t help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths,” Olayinka said.

He claimed the gathering was primarily for social pleasure, adding that members who “indulged in drinks” were “free to say anything,” implying that comments or resolutions from the venue lacked seriousness.

His remarks came after Reality News Today earlier reported the expulsion of Wike, Fayose, and the factional National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, over alleged anti-party activities. The decision was taken on Saturday at the party’s ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The motion for the expulsion was moved by one of the PDP’s founding fathers, Chief Bode George, and seconded by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed. Delegates at the convention reportedly endorsed the motion unanimously.

The Ibadan convention had already been surrounded by controversy following multiple court orders instructing the party to halt the exercise. One of the injunctions was issued just a day before the event, with several influential PDP leaders—including a former President of the Senate—warned that proceeding despite the orders could further destabilize the crisis-ridden party.

Despite these legal warnings, the Damagum-led leadership went ahead, culminating in the expulsion of some of the party’s most prominent figures and prompting sharp responses from the affected individuals.
