The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has given the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the go-ahead to hold its Elective National Convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The ruling, delivered on Monday, November 3, 2025, by Hon. Justice A. L. Akintola, put an end to uncertainties surrounding the convention. The case, filed as Suit No. I/1336/2025, was instituted by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the party.
Justice Akintola ordered the PDP and its servants, agents, or officers not to truncate, frustrate, or disrupt the approved guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities for the convention.
In a decisive directive, the court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor and observe the exercise to ensure full compliance with electoral laws — a move aimed at strengthening the transparency and legitimacy of the convention.
The court further instructed the Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to continue with all necessary arrangements for the successful conduct of the exercise.
With the judgment, all legal obstacles to the convention have been cleared, paving the way for the NCOC, led by Governor Fintiri, to finalize preparations for the participation of over 3,000 delegates — including statutory delegates, governors, members of the National Assembly, and key stakeholders from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
