JAMB Extends 2025 Admission Deadline for Public Universities to November 17

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of the 2025 admission process into public universities, shifting the date from Friday, 31st October 2025 to Monday, 17th November 2025.

The decision was announced in a statement issued late Sunday by the Board’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

The new timeline comes after the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on 18th July 2025, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, initially fixed 31st October as the deadline for all public universities to conclude admissions.

Benjamin stated that the Board appreciates the commitment shown by public universities towards meeting the initial deadline, which was set to allow other tertiary institutions — private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions — to complete their admissions ahead of the overall closing date of 31st December 2025.

However, he explained that “emergent and compelling circumstances” made an extension necessary, citing two key reasons:

    1. Appeal by AVCNU:
The Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) requested an extension following disruptions caused by several factors, including a court order that had directed status quo be maintained on the 2025/26 admission list. The order was only lifted on 28th October 2025.
    2. Newly Accredited Programmes:
In line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to expand access to higher education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), on 29th October 2025, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes for 37 universities, and admissions into these programmes are just being scheduled.

“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, 17th November 2025,” Benjamin confirmed.

JAMB expressed gratitude to all institutions for their cooperation and efforts in meeting the initial deadline, but stressed that the new date is final and must be strictly adhered to.

“The Board remains committed to ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals and institutional autonomy,” the statement added.
