The Ondo State Police Command has sanctioned no fewer than eight of its officers for professional misconduct within the last two months.

The State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed this while addressing journalists, stressing that the command under his leadership remains committed to upholding the ethics and norms of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, the disciplinary measures followed complaints lodged by members of the public during the period. He explained that the command has created various channels for residents to express grievances or report erring officers.

“We have the monitoring units, the provost, and the complaint response unit (CRU). Once we get complaints about any officer, that person faces the consequences. Some have been detained, some queried, and depending on rank, others face a room trial,” Lawal said.

He further stated that the command has consistently warned officers against corruption, extortion, and mounting illegal roadblocks, adding that anyone caught would be duly punished.

“So far, so good, about eight officers of the command have been sanctioned in the last two months,” he confirmed.

The CP commended members of the public for their role in holding officers accountable and urged them to continue lodging complaints directly with divisional police officers, area commanders, or even with him personally. He also encouraged residents to provide the police with credible information to enhance the security and protection of lives and property across the state.

Lawal emphasised that he has made himself accessible to the public and is closely monitoring officers to ensure effective and professional policing.

While appreciating the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for prompt salary payments, the CP revealed that some personnel in the state had been promoted and rewarded for outstanding performance, highlighting that discipline and excellence would continue to be the benchmarks of the command.
