The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, citing him as a model of peace, love, and tolerance.
“On this occasion, I call on all Muslims to imbibe the Prophet’s virtues of love, patience, humility, and selflessness,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said. “These values are essential in building a united and prosperous Nigeria.”
The Minister further appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for peace and stability in the country. He emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing national challenges.
“As a people, we must stand together and support the government in its efforts to ensure security, economic growth, and development,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo added. “Unity and cooperation are the bedrock of progress.”
Eid-ul-Mawlid is an annual celebration honoring Prophet Muhammad’s birth, observed by Muslims worldwide.
