Beginning September 1, 2025, Nigerians seeking to obtain or renew passports within the country will pay double the current fees, following a review announced by the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), ACI AS Akinlabi, the new rates were introduced to safeguard the “quality and integrity” of the Nigerian passport.
Under the revised structure, the 32-page booklet with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, up from ₦50,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity will attract ₦200,000, compared to the previous ₦100,000.
Interestingly, the increment does not affect Nigerians in the Diaspora, who will continue to pay \$150 for the 32-page passport (five years) and \$230 for the 64-page passport (10 years).
“The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians,” the NIS assured in the statement.
The sharp rise in fees is likely to trigger heated public reactions, coming at a time when citizens are already contending with high living expenses and the pressures of ongoing economic reforms.
