The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oyo State chapter, has officially inaugurated its newly elected state executive officers, with Comrade Ayobami Adeogun taking the oath of office for a second term as president.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place on Monday, at the State NULGE Secretariat, M.K.O. Abiola Way, Challenge, Ibadan, was conducted by the union’s National President General, Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Babalola Rufus Adeyemi. The event drew union veterans, state officers, branch chairmen, stakeholders, and members from across the 33 Local Government Areas and 35 Local Council Development Areas of the state.

Comrade Adeogun, who was overwhelmingly re-elected on August 7 in a landslide victory, will now lead the affairs of the union for another four years alongside other elected officers.

In his acceptance speech, Adeogun expressed gratitude to God and union members for reposing confidence in his leadership, describing his re-election as a “collective victory” for the entire local government workforce in Oyo State.

“You stood firmly, you spoke loudly, and you voted courageously to reaffirm your confidence in our leadership. This victory is not for me alone; it belongs to all of us,” he declared.

Highlighting achievements recorded during his first tenure, Adeogun pointed to improved welfare packages for members, stronger advocacy for local government autonomy, and the consolidation of unity and peace within the union. He noted that NULGE Oyo had grown into “a force respected and reckoned with” among trade unions in the state and across Nigeria.

Despite these successes, the NULGE president acknowledged that more work lies ahead. He pledged to deepen advocacy efforts and place greater emphasis on the welfare of members.

“We shall continue to stand in the gap to protect the interests and welfare of our members. We shall continue to be the voice of the voiceless and ensure that the dignity of labour is upheld in the local government system,” Adeogun assured.

He also urged members to remain united, stressing that collective effort was crucial for the union’s progress. As part of his plans, he announced a “Thank-You Tour” across all zones of the state to personally appreciate members for their overwhelming support during the election.

Reaffirming his commitment, he said: “We shall not betray your trust. We shall not disappoint you. With God on our side, and with your continued support and prayers, we shall take our Union to even greater heights.”

The ceremony was marked by solidarity songs and jubilation from NULGE members, reflecting a renewed sense of hope and resilience under Adeogun’s leadership.

Among dignitaries present were Hon. Ademola Ige, Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Pension Board; Comrade Rufus Adeyemi Babalola, Deputy President General of NULGE; former State Deputy President and HLGA, Irepo LG, Comrade Alhaji Ismael Adedeji Adeleke; alongside other notable stakeholders.
