The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, while maintaining the current National Working Committee (NWC) zoning arrangement ahead of the party’s elective convention slated for November.
The decision, taken at the NEC meeting on Monday in Abuja, followed the adoption of the report of the PDP convention zoning committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
Governor Diri explained that the recommendation emanated from extensive deliberations at the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting held on Saturday in Gusau, Zamfara State. That gathering brought together stakeholders, including members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), former governors, ex-ministers, and other organs of the party.
“One of the decisions reached at that meeting is that we should not only zone the party offices, but also the presidency. That informed our recommendation,” Diri said.
Briefing newsmen after the NEC meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that the NEC had adopted the zoning report in its entirety.
According to him, “NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions. NEC also resolved that since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”
The zoning committee, which submitted the report, was a 44-member body inaugurated on August 14 in Abuja to chart the course for power-sharing within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
