The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has held its 7th meeting for 2025 in Gusau, Zamfara State, where it deliberated extensively on the state of the nation, insecurity, erosion of democratic values, and ongoing efforts to reposition the party ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
The meeting, which took place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Zamfara Government House, ended with far-reaching resolutions issued in a communiqué signed by the Forum’s Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
Appreciation to Party Supporters
The Forum expressed profound gratitude to members and supporters of the PDP nationwide for their loyalty and steadfastness despite what it described as “serious intimidation and untold anti-democratic actions” of the APC-led Federal Government in the recent bye-election.
Commendation of Party Leadership
It commended the resilience of PDP leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections, stressing that such distractions would not diminish the party’s grassroots appeal or the public’s yearning for affordable living and relative security experienced under PDP administrations.
The Forum urged members and supporters to hold firmly to the vision and principles of the PDP despite the growing intimidation of the opposition by the ruling government, describing such actions as signs of desperation from “a political party with no agenda, no vision and doomed to face inevitable rejection by the masses.”
Commitment to National Convention
The Forum reaffirmed its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention. It urged members to resist attempts by anti-party forces to derail the process and emphasized that the PDP remains the only democratic institution and viable alternative capable of restoring Nigeria on the path of good governance and development.
Inclusive Leadership and Defence of Democracy
Reiterating its mission, the Forum declared its commitment to “rescuing Nigeria and Nigerians” from the divisive governance style of the APC, which it said has inflicted hardship and misery on citizens.
Insecurity and Security Reforms
The Forum particularly commended initiatives by the Zamfara State Government in significantly curbing insecurity within the state. However, it condemned continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and other states, calling on the Federal Government to be more responsive in safeguarding lives and property.
August 9 Nationwide Bye-Elections
The Forum strongly condemned the over-militarization of the August 9 nationwide bye-elections, citing widespread irregularities, vote buying, and violence. It urged Nigerians to be vigilant and protective of their votes in future elections.
Appreciation to Zamfara State
The Forum thanked the Government and people of Zamfara for hosting the 2025/7th meeting and for the hospitality extended to all attendees. It also congratulated Governor Dauda Lawal on his “exemplary leadership and notable achievements” in infrastructure, health, education, social services, and security.
The Forum commiserated with the Government and people of Zamfara over the passing of the Emir of Gusau, and with the Government and people of Oyo State over the recent loss of traditional rulers.
