The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel and another member of the party, Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities.
In a statement issued on Monday night by the APC Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, the party said the suspensions, which are indefinite, were ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) at a meeting held on August 19 and chaired by the State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, with 16 members present.
According to the statement, the action followed recommendations of disciplinary committees set up in Sagamu Local Government Wards 4 and 6, where Daniel and Folarin are members. The committees had investigated allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities against them.
Sanusi explained that both Daniel and Folarin were invited to appear before the committees to defend themselves, but failed to honour the invitations or submit a written defence. He added that witnesses and documentary evidence were considered in their absence.
“The committees also received reports that the members under investigation had been intimidating party members, warning them against cooperating with the panels, and using their political status to pressure others to withdraw petitions,” Sanusi said.
The SWC noted that the suspensions demonstrate the party’s commitment to discipline and adherence to its constitution, pending further investigation and final decisions on the matter.
However, Senator Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the National Assembly, has denied being notified of the suspension. His media aide, Steve Oliyide, told Channels Television that the Senator has not received any letter from the party informing him of the allegations or his suspension.
The development has heightened political tension within the Ogun APC as the party moves to enforce discipline among its ranks.
