The Olubadan-In-Council has formally nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
This decision was made during a closed-door meeting held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. Although Oba Ladoja was absent from the meeting, the session was presided over by the Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, who confirmed the council’s unanimous resolution.
“All members of the Olubadan-In-Council have signed and endorsed Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Oba Ajibola stated.
He added that the council’s decision would be formally submitted to the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, who will determine the date for the presentation of the staff of office to the new monarch.
Oba Ajibola explained that, due to the funeral of the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, scheduled for this week, the installation of Oba Ladoja will not take place immediately.
“The governor may choose to hold the ceremony in one, two, or three weeks’ time,” he said.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin passed away on July 7, 2025, and preparations for his burial are currently underway.
