The Oke-Ogun Indigenous Youths Solidarity Forum has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to zone the 2027 Oyo State governorship ticket to the Oke-Ogun region. The group, under the leadership of its National President, Comrade Dr. Ojedokun Jonathan, cited a history of political marginalization and underrepresentation as core reasons behind the demand.

In a detailed memorandum addressed to the President and the Governor, the youth forum outlined 15 compelling reasons why Oke-Ogun deserves the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state.

Key Points from the Youths’ Submission:

    1. Historical Significance: The group emphasized Oke-Ogun’s rich cultural heritage and its foundational role in Oyo State’s history.
    2. Geographical Spread: Comprising ten local government areas, Oke-Ogun occupies a major portion of the state’s landmass.
    3. Agricultural and Industrial Potential: Known for its strong agrarian base, the region holds immense promise for agro-processing and economic growth.
    4. Unity and Youth Development: The forum highlighted the region’s cohesion and commitment to youth empowerment as proof of readiness for leadership.
    5. Fairness and Equity: The group maintained that zoning the governorship ticket to Oke-Ogun would address long-standing issues of injustice and promote inclusive governance.
    6. Population Size and Resources: With a significant population and abundance of natural and human resources, the region is seen as capable of steering the state towards greater development.
    7. Strategic Location: Oke-Ogun serves as a vital commercial and logistical link between Oyo State and other parts of Nigeria.
    8. Call for Balanced Development: A governor from Oke-Ogun, they argued, would accelerate the region’s infrastructure, healthcare, education, and cultural preservation.

    The statement reads in part:
“Zoning the governorship seat to Oke-Ogun in 2027 will not only ensure equity and justice but also unlock the developmental potential of an entire region that has long been overlooked despite its contributions to the growth of Oyo State.”

    Call to Action

The forum concluded with an earnest appeal to President Tinubu and Governor Makinde to support their quest, describing it as a historic opportunity to foster fairness, development, and unity across the state.

    Signatories:

    • Comrade Dr. Ojedokun Jonathan
National President, Oke-Ogun Indigenous Youths Solidarity Forum

    • Comrade Gbadamosi Ibrahim

      08067065222
    • Comrade Tiamiyu Waliu
      National PRO

The youth body reiterated its readiness to engage further with political stakeholders and civil society groups to push forward the conversation ahead of the 2027 elections.
