To curb incessant traffic congestion and road accidents along the Eleyele/Ologuneru axis, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alhaji AbdulRahman Olanrewaju Adepoju, alongside members of his cabinet and security operatives, paid an official visit to Eleyele Market. The visit featured an interactive meeting with market traders and motorists.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman explained that the engagement was aimed at addressing the root causes of frequent traffic and accidents within the market area. He revealed that security reports attributed illegal parking by motorists, Okada riders, and street trading as major contributors to a recent motor accident in Eleyele Market that resulted in the loss of lives. This prompted the need for immediate intervention to prevent further occurrences.

Alhaji Adepoju assured stakeholders that the current administration, led by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, is committed to creating a safe and conducive environment for commercial and residential activities. He emphasized that the government’s actions are not meant to inconvenience anyone but to ensure the safety and well-being of all.

To address the situation, the Chairman issued a directive that traders must refrain from displaying goods by the roadside, and motorists must stop picking up or dropping passengers outside designated areas. He urged traders to utilize the spaces provided for their commercial activities and advised Okada and tricycle riders to operate strictly within designated motor parks.

The Chairman warned that anyone, irrespective of their socio-political status, found violating traffic rules would face appropriate legal sanctions. He further disclosed that security operatives have been deployed across the Eleyele area to enforce compliance without fear or favor.

During the visit, Alhaji Adepoju also inspected the ongoing Eleyele Water Corporation Road rehabilitation project. He commended the contractors for their quality work and expressed optimism that the project’s completion would significantly ease traffic congestion in Eleyele and its environs. The Chairman appreciated the patience of residents during the construction and assured them that the road would be opened for use as soon as possible.

Accompanying the Executive Chairman were the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ganiy Abiodun Omotosho; Leader of the House, Hon. Gbemileke Nelson; Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Fantola; Councillors; and the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Rachael Olabode. Also present were the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Eleyele Division, as well as officers from the FRSC, NSCDC, OYRTMA, and Amotekun Corps.
