In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu has lauded the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, which has resumed loading petroleum products as of November 26, 2024.
The President attributed this milestone to the foundational work initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who spearheaded the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries. He also expressed appreciation to the African Export-Import Bank for its critical role in financing the project.
Acknowledging the leadership of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, President Tinubu noted that Kyari’s resilience and commitment were instrumental in overcoming obstacles to restore operations at the refinery.
Looking ahead, the President has directed NNPC Limited to accelerate the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, alongside the Warri and Kaduna refineries. These efforts, coupled with contributions from private refineries, are expected to significantly boost domestic production capacity and position Nigeria as a leading energy hub.
President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to repairing the country’s refining infrastructure, describing it as a step toward dispelling the image of Nigeria as an oil-rich nation unable to meet its refining needs. He emphasized that these advancements align with his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing energy security, and increasing export capacity.
The statement further highlighted the administration’s focus on patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure. The President called on all stakeholders and citizens to uphold these values in service to the nation, reaffirming his vision of shared economic prosperity and a robust energy sector under his leadership.
