Maintain Status Quo, Seek Dialogue: Oyo APC Chair on Akande-Shadipe’s Expulsion

Alhaji Olayide Abas, the acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has urged leaders and stakeholders in Oluyole Federal Constituency to prioritize peace and constructive dialogue in addressing internal conflicts. His call comes in the wake of a leadership dispute that has sparked tension within the local APC chapter, culminating in the reported expulsion of Hon. Tolulope Akande-Shadipe, the federal lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representatives.

On Monday, the Executive Committee of Akande-Shadipe’s ward reportedly took the decision to expel her, escalating a crisis that had been brewing within the party. Reacting to the situation, Abas condemned the move, describing it as premature, unnecessary, and damaging to the party’s unity.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Abas expressed frustration at not being consulted before the drastic action was taken. He emphasized that the expulsion could have been avoided through proper communication and consultation with party leadership. Abas instructed all parties involved to step back and maintain the status quo while efforts are made to mediate and resolve the situation.

“The expulsion of Hon. Tolulope Akande-Shadipe without seeking resolution through the appropriate channels is hasty and embarrassing to the leadership of the APC,” Abas stated. “I have ordered all parties to halt further actions and allow for a peaceful resolution. The leadership of Oyo APC is taking steps to get to the root of the matter and will ensure that peace is restored.”

Abas also highlighted the importance of unity within the party, reminding stakeholders of the party’s losses in the 2019 and 2023 gubernatorial elections, which were partly attributed to internal strife. “Oyo APC cannot afford any further division. The party has just begun to rebuild its unity, and we must all work together to maintain peace, especially in important constituencies like Oluyole,” he stressed.

In closing, Abas urged all parties to allow senior leaders in the state to mediate in the conflict and called on those instigating discord within the party to cease their actions. He warned against overzealous behavior linked to political ambitions for 2027, noting that similar tensions have been reported in Ona-Ara, Egbeda, and other council areas.

The acting chairman’s message underscores the importance of peace, dialogue, and consultation as the APC works to stabilize internal dynamics and prepare for future elections.
