Death is often described as inevitable and a necessary end for all, yet it is never timely in the eyes of the bereaved. As the Yoruba saying goes, “An o ni fi ojo logo lo”—we pray not to die an untimely or disgraceful death. But regardless of prayers or wishes, death comes to everyone, be they ordinary or extraordinary, and leaves behind pain for those who loved them.

The passing of Alhaji Ibrahim Ashiru, fondly known as “Alh Ibrash,” is not just the loss of an individual but the loss of a man who embodied the essence of community, enterprise, and quiet yet impactful leadership. His life story is not just one of personal achievement but one that includes the uplifting of countless others. A man who built bridges in both business and relationships, Alh Ibrash was a pillar in both Oke Ogun and Lagos, where his influence and legacy remain strong.

Known for his exceptional business acumen, Alh Ibrash established a successful electrical materials dealership that became a lifeline for many. The wealth he generated was not just for himself; it was shared generously among family, friends, and the larger community. Through this enterprise, he paved the way for many to access education and better opportunities, lifting families out of poverty and securing futures for generations.

As a quiet and reserved man, his demeanor was in line with the wisdom found in religious teachings—the less you speak, the more your actions speak for you. And indeed, Alh Ibrash’s actions spoke volumes. He was the founder of Ibrash Publications Nigeria Ltd., a publishing house that was instrumental in pushing forward the boundaries of knowledge and intellectualism in his community. His ventures extended beyond publishing into real estate, earning him the moniker “Onilegogoro” (owner of a high-rise building) in the upscale Oke Dio area.

Beyond his business empire, Alh Ibrash was a deeply pious Muslim who dedicated the latter years of his life to the service of Islam. He was instrumental in establishing the Alhaja Tahibat Ashiru Islamic Center in Saki, which includes a central mosque and an Arabic school. His legacy is also etched in the worship center he built in front of his estate at Oke Dio, serving as a spiritual sanctuary for many.

Alhaji Ibrahim Ashiru was not just a businessman but a philanthropist, community leader, and a devoted family man whose impact will be felt for years to come. His departure leaves a void that will be difficult to fill, but his legacy remains a guiding light for those who knew him.

Adieu, Alhaji Ibrahim Ashiru Onilegogoro—humanist, philanthropist, businessman, and pious servant of God. May your soul find peace and eternal rest in the gardens of Jannah.
