The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) has launched a significant empowerment program, distributing foodstuffs and cash gifts to 300 widows, people living with disabilities, and other vulnerable citizens across the state. The initiative, part of the NG-CARES program, is in collaboration with the Federal Government and the World Bank and is designed to provide much-needed support to the state’s most vulnerable populations.

The distribution began in Lagelu and Akinyele local government areas, specifically at Alegongo, Akobo, and the Akinyele Local Government Secretariat in Ibadan on Monday, and will continue across the state. Each beneficiary received packs of rice and beans, along with cash donations.

During the event, Hon. Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga, Chairman of OYCSDA, expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to improving the living conditions of the citizens by funding community micro-projects and the psychosocial support program. He encouraged the beneficiaries to extend kindness and support to others within their means.

“We are here today to fulfill our mandate, not only by intervening in community development projects in education, health, sanitation, water, and erosion control but also by providing for the vulnerable people in our communities,” Hon. Adeaga stated. “This includes widows, people with special needs, and the elderly, who have been significantly affected by the recent global economic downturn caused by COVID-19.”

Mr. Salau Jelili, the General Manager of OYCSDA, highlighted other areas where the agency has made impactful interventions, such as the construction and renovation of classrooms, culverts, community healthcare centers, provision of motorized boreholes, and construction of public toilets. He noted that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has successfully implemented micro-projects in every local government area in Oyo State, tailored to the specific needs of each community.

This initiative underscores the OYCSDA’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of Oyo State’s most vulnerable citizens through comprehensive community development and support programs.
